A shoe in.........

I’ve never ever bought a pair of white shoes ….. before. Wearing white is, as I’ve mentioned previously, not something I do naturally. If I try to wear anything white other people’s ketchup lands on me. I have experimented with the crisp white shirt and the fact that I don’t iron does hamper my crisp appeal. I once bought a pair of white jeans and I wore them on a 6 week trek around Mexico with a 2 year old in tow……. my 2 year old I hasten to add, not one I just found. Why did I wear white jeans? Who knows. It was the 90s and I think I had some brightly coloured poncho'n'white-trousered fashion faux pas thing going on, born about by watching too much High Chaperral as a kid. And then going to art college. Anyway, I ended up just another Gringo in dirty trousers.
But recently I saw a pair of very expensive Prada shoes that I liked a lot. And then I saw a pair of much, much cheaper, but most definitely inspired by Prada, shoes from Office, in Harper’s Bazaar magazine, that I liked a lot. And so dear reader, I bought them.
Going white one step at a time……

Top tip: give or get a monthly subscription to a magazine……. It’s the gift that keeps on giving.

  1. You mean you didn't have a pair of white stilletos in the 1980's? You missed out - they did wonders for young legs! Gorgeous shoes. xxx

  3. Hmm - I'm not overkeen on white at all - shoes or clothes - but you're cool enough to pull it off..... Laughed at the 2 yr old in Mexico1 - love the idea of taking any random 2 yr old....well, in reality it wouldn't be fun, but it would make a good Almodovar film.... Have a good weekend X

  4. I buy white linen trousers of some kind every summer and wonder why I always need a new pair the following year. Is white magnetic to dirt? Love the shoes. Julie x

  6. Wait? You took a two year old around Mexico by yourself? There is some kind of award for that woman! I once took two kids on a plane from London to NZ (28 hours) and I have been permanently scarred by the experience. Agree about the magazine, funnily enough I got on some list for Elle and I've been getting it free for years, though it's that second tier one where the cover is in black or white or it has a less good photo on it.

  7. White shoes. To wear or not -
I have had white shoes, my most recent was a pair of white sandals that are no longer in my closet-
Whenever I wear white shoes my husband looks at me and gives me the -you look like a nurse- look. I am use to it by now.

  8. I share your attraction to a crisp white shirt, and, unfortunately, your aversion to the iron. Nice shoes.

  9. Thanks for popping by and your comment....now ...white shoes... Last time I wore these was the 80s and have never managed the crisp white shirt thing. Just end up looking like a crumpled bag, not chic at all. Admire anyone who can pull it off. Like the shoe style though! Me I think I am going for nude (shoes that is ..not me, heaven forbid. And it probably would! )

  13. My Godmother had five sons and was living in Africa. when she got fed up with it, she decided to drive home in a Morris Minor sans husband who had to stay behind to work. I doubt she wore white shoes but yours are v.v. nice.

  14. Wearing my food is a perpetual problem, so no white for me. I did try some white linen slacks once. BIG Mistake.

  15. Yes what is it with people who can wear white trousers and stay clean? And what about those houses with everything painted white?! I know from bitter experience that if you paint your furniture white it needs cleaning all the time! Nice shoes, I hope you have some white shoe cleaner. ;)xx

Your white jeans story made me smile....I can't see white jeans without thinking of Elizabeth Hurley, although she always looks fabulous in hers :)

I just wanted to say thank you for the comments you leave on my blog, they always make me feel better & invariably make me smile, thank you so much X

  18. I'm not quite sure if I ever had white shoes --except those dreadful school gym shoes (plimpsolls?)
that one used to clean with a thing a bit like a white roll on-deodorant.....do such things still exist?

  20. I'm still smiling at the 'hampered crisp appeal' let alone the 2 year old episode, and then I got side-tracked by several other posts. All this and I'm meant to be slavishly devoted to my desk today. Thanks for the lovely sidetracking and the chuckles. And I could have been tempted by those shoes too. They look great! Amanda x

  21. I always thought white shoes made my feet look ginormous. But you go. White might travel up all the way to your headband. And some white framed shades to complete the look. Just avoid the two year olds.

  22. The only white shoes I have are my bensimon runners. But come to think of it they aren't that crisp or fresh despite several times in the washing machine. Your shoes look very cool ! X
