We need to talk about ...... Olivia

Olivia Colman that is. Not only does she do comedy like a comedy queen ...... did you see Peep Show or Twenty Twelve or Rev....... but she can also make you cry. Did you see Broadchurch? The last episode? Not only was I watching an ITV cop show but I was bawling my eyes out.
I don't really do police procedurals as a rule, somebody did do it and it will be revealed....... it's either the last one to get interviewed or the first one to get interviewed but somebody missed something...... however, I was tuned in week after week to ITV's Broadchurch specifically to see Ms. Colman. And oh what a star turn. She's a national treasure in waiting, twice nominated for BAFTAs for Twenty Twelve and Accused, if she doesn't win something there is no justice.

Top tip: watch Olivia Colman on The Graham Norton Show,  Friday May 10th.

  1. She's superb - loved her in Peep Show and Broadchurch. Lots of articles about her currently - mostly hanging on the premise that *heavens* she's not very attractive, but is successful / good - I sort of know what they mean - she's not the archetypal TV beauty, but..... Well, I think's she's beautiful - and very talented! I shall Sky + Graham N. x

  2. Yes! I saw her in all those and she's fondly known in our house as 'Sophie' ;) (Peep show. I loved her in Green Wing too as the harrassed mum in the office, brilliant!xx

  3. The moment when she announced she had a Xmas present for Adam (in Rev, when they had promised no big presents this year) was SO touching; it didn't take a genius to guess her character was - at last - pregnant, but she still made tears start in my eyes they way she did it.

  13. Clearly Alan Sugar will have to make good on his promise to pull strings to make her a Baroness - and she was very funny telling a story about her teeth and Meryl Streep. Usually dismissive of ITV I watched Broadchurch for Olivia and David and will try her with Mr.Witcher tonight.

  15. Must see if I can watch that. I also read today in NY Times about a Brit cop thing featuring women. Love that the Brits can do drama and comedy with real looking women. If they did that over here everyone would be waaay too glam to be relatable.

  16. And what great BAFTA speech(es) she gave! Funny, self deprecating an endearing.

  17. She is amazing - we really loved "REV" - but then again Tom Hollander is extraordinary too - great actors xxx

  19. She IS beautiful and so I will look forward to seeing her in something. And it's been my experience that the older I get - the thinner the already-fine line between comedy and drama/laughing and crying :)
